Industry NewsSingapore Airlines to fit Starlink Wi-Fi across Airbus A350-900 and A380 fleets from 2027
Singapore Airlines is to install Starlink satellite Wi-Fi equipment across its Airbus A350-900 and A380 widebody fleets, with the rollout scheduled to begin in 2027 and the service made available across all cabin classes.
According to Aviation Business News, complimentary access in economy class will be restricted to members of the airline's KrisFlyer loyalty programme. No announcement has been made regarding Starlink installation on the carrier's Boeing 777 and 787 widebody aircraft.
Yeoh Phee Teik, Senior Vice President of Customer Experience at Singapore Airlines, said fast, seamless connectivity had become an essential part of the travel experience. "Starlink will take this to the next level by delivering next-generation high-speed connectivity, enabling customers to stay entertained, connected, and productive throughout their journey, with a smoother and seamless experience from take-off to landing," he said.
Jason Fritch, Vice President of Starlink Enterprise Sales at SpaceX, said the partnership would bring seamless, low-latency connectivity to passengers and crew across both long-haul and ultra-long-haul operations. "Starlink is redefining what is possible for leisure and business travellers alike," he said.
Starlink, operated by SpaceX, uses a low-earth orbit satellite constellation to deliver high-speed broadband with significantly lower latency than traditional geostationary in-flight connectivity systems. The technology has seen rapid adoption across the aviation sector, with Emirates already fitting the system to its A380 and Boeing 777 fleets and multiple other carriers announcing installations across widebody and narrowbody aircraft.
Singapore Airlines currently offers complimentary in-flight Wi-Fi across its entire fleet, and the Starlink upgrade is intended to improve both speed and reliability of that existing service.
