The North Face, the outdoor apparel brand owned by VF Corporation, is opening its first standalone store in Northern Ireland at Victoria Square, Belfast, with Dundonald-based Somerville Fit-Out appointed to deliver the four-week fit-out programme; this is a retail market entry, not a transaction, and no deal consideration or counterparty arises.

The North Face is a brand of VF Corporation (NYSE: VFC), a Denver-headquartered apparel group. For FY2026 (year ended March 28, 2026), The North Face brand generated full-year revenue of $4.01 billion (€3.67 billion), up 8% year on year, with Q4 revenue up 12%. VF Corporation's total FY2026 revenue was $9.6 billion (€8.79 billion), with adjusted EBITDA of $1.34 billion.

The North Face already operates standalone stores across England, Scotland and Wales but has no presence in Northern Ireland or the Republic of Ireland. Somerville Fit-Out is a Dundonald-based retail contractor delivering fit-outs for international brands across Belfast; its revenue is not publicly disclosed.

The structural driver is a DTC acceleration strategy. VF Corporation's FY2026 results confirmed that global direct-to-consumer sales returned to growth, driven by physical and digital retail investment. The Belfast opening extends that DTC logic to a market where The North Face has historically relied on wholesale distribution through department stores and outdoor retailers, without a branded retail environment to control pricing, presentation or customer experience. The absence of any standalone Republic of Ireland store means Belfast is also the brand's only direct-to-consumer touchpoint on the entire island.

Victoria Square is a strategically sound location: anchored by House of Fraser, with footfall concentrated among the 18 to 35 demographic that The North Face most actively targets. The choice of a lower ground floor unit rather than a premium ground floor position suggests a market-testing entry rather than a flagship commitment, keeping capital exposure low in a first market.

For Northern Ireland retail, the arrival of The North Face follows international brand debuts at Victoria Square including Flannels, JD Sports premium concepts and Levi's, indicating the centre has successfully positioned itself as the preferred landing pad for brands entering the Northern Irish market.
